OVERVIEW/DESCRIPTION

It seems that there is never a lack of things to do out here in sunny San Diego! From exploring the parks and coffee shops of our neighborhood here in South Park during the day to soaking up the vibrant nightlife in nearby North Park, there is always a new activity to try or place to visit. Since arriving here, we have frequented San Diego’s best beaches and learned to surf, taken in a Padres game downtown at Petco Park, seen the Chargers win at Qualcomm Stadium, and shared many a home-cooked meal with our friends in the nearby Augustinian communities. We welcomed the holiday season by attending December Nights, hosted at the close by Balboa Park (the largest urban park in the nation), immersed ourselves in Mexican culture by exploring the murals in Chicano Park, and we have seen the sun set at the breathtaking Sunset Cliffs. Though San Diego is still a relatively new environment for our community, the more we explore the city, the more it feels like home.

HISTORY

The San Diego site was one of the original Augustinian Volunteer sites. The program has had Volunteers serving in some of the service sites since 2000 including St. Patrick School and St. Augustine High School. Over the years, the service sites in San Diego have grown and expanded to include working with Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul Village, Hogar Infantil La Gloria, Holy Family School, Nativity Prep School, Villa Nueva, and many others. In 2000, the Volunteers moved into a house in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego, located across the street from St. Augustine High School. In 2007, the Volunteers moved into the house where they currently reside in the South Park neighborhood of San Diego.
